Acidic Oil |
Acid is formed as one of the products when oil is hydrolitically aged. In the presence of moisture, heat and oxygen, acidic compounds, usually in the form of weak acids, will be formed. The Total Acid Number (TAN measured in mg KOH/g equivalent) signifies the total acid content of an oil but not the strength of the acids. Acid in oil can be prevented by keeping moisture levels low, or when already formed, can be removed using a CJC ion exchange filter insert.
