| Condensation of Water |
Component failure due to water contamination may have catastrophic consequenses, but it may not have an immediate effect. Numerous failures in lubricating systems are truly cause by excess water. Effects of water on a system can be:
- Shorter component life due to ruse
- Oxidation of bearing babbitt
- Wear caused by loss of oil film or hard water deposits
- Lack of lubrication due to filter blocking by water
- Water accelerated oxidation of oil
- Water may cause some additives to leave the oil.
