Applications in a Power Plant

In the modern world, we can not live without electricity, the need has increasing over the last 10 years with app. 10%, we users demand more and more power. The reason is higher no. of electric machines, and equipment in every day life. In the homes as well as in the industry. For many years the central power plants has produced the necessary electricity, but today wind turbine, wind parks and decentral power plant are producing more and more of the the electricity. Coal and oil where the main fuels in the past and still is, but today more environment friendly fuels are also being used, like wind, water and gas. The application on Power Plant are mainly Lubrication oil for steam and gas turbines, and feed pumps. Gears on coal mills and reductions, hydraulic for pitch systems, coal cranes, controlsystems, etc. these systems comes in almost all sizes.
The biggest focus has always been on the lubrication oil for the bearings on the turbines. This oil has to be very clean and water free at all times. Recommended is ISO 4406 code 16/13 and water level between 200 -500 ppm. Many are at that level in the beginning, but will they stay there. On the steam turbines the oil and steam is only separated by the labyrinth seal. Pressure in the oil should keep the steam from getting into the oil, but it is not always so. Therefore the steam will mix with the oil, and the water level increase. Also many turbines is running at a high temp. around 60-70 degrees. High temp. like that, the oil will oxidate quicker, forming resin. In the past turbines was supplied only with in-line filters, but today more and more Power Plants demands turbines equipt with an off-line filtration system.
Some of the more contaminated system are the gear oil, like coal mill, reductions gear and combustion air preheater. All these systems generates a lot of particles, but also particles from the surroundings gets into the oil. The oil is normally very contaminated and recommended is ISO code 17/13, and water level below 300 ppm. Most of the times water is not the big problem, but because of condense the water level can increase quickly.
Most of the application in the Power Plant industry is hydraulic systems. They are smaller system and sometimes forgotten, but clean oil is just as important on hydraulic as on lubrication oil. Application like coal cranes, control systems, pitch systems etc., cleaning level is recommended at ISO 14/11, which is cleaner the new oil.
Furthermore application as control system on turbines with phosphate ester and transformers are some of the other oil systems that can be of interest.
Oil types
Lube, gear, hydraulic and transformer oils are the most used ones, but in many different viscosities from hydraulic 32 oil, up to a 320 gear oil. Phosphate ester and other fluids are also used in the Power Plant industry.
CJC Solution
CJC have different filters for different problems, therefore for steam turbines we use a Filter Separator with aut. Water discharge: PTU3 27/- P-EPW. For gas turbines we use Fine Filter HDU 27/- P, the size of the filter is depending on the size of the lube oil system. For gear and hydraulic, most of the filter types used is Fine Filter HDU, from 15/25 to very big 27/-.
Because the oil viscosity differ from application to application, we have build many different filter for many different problems, but nothing we can not solve.
