CJC Filter Cartridge
Holding Capacity
In order to find out how much
"dirt" one CJC filter cartridge can contain, the following test was
carried out with an HDU 427/108 filter system containing 16 cartridges of type
HDU 27/27. The application was filtration of engine lube oil (on board a
container ship).
According to Weight:
Weight of one set of used cartridges |
225.00 kg |
Weight of one set of new cartridges |
58.08 kg |
Contents of the set of used cartridges |
166.92 |
According to Volume:
Volume of one set of used cartridges |
200.00 ltr. |
Volume of cellulose in one set of new cartridges |
52.80 ltr. |
Volume of oil and sludge in set of used cartridges |
147.20 ltr. |
To calculate the specific gravity of oil and
sludge: 166.92 kg / 147.20 ltr. = 1.13
According to engine oil / sludge data tables, we can determine
that the sludge content is 0.94 (94%) for a specific gravity of 1.13
Therefore, we can deduce that the used filter cartridge set
contains the following weight of sludge material: 0.94 x 166.92 kg = 156.90
kg
This further translates to an individual cartridge containing
the following weight of sludge material: 156.90 kg / 16 cartridges per set = 9.8
kg per cartridge (21.5 lbs per cartridge)
It should be noted that the weight of contaminant contained in a
single cartridge will vary depending on the application and type of
contaminant. We have found through many years of experience that the
weight of contaminant contained in a single cartridge type HDU 27/27 and B 27/27
averages between 5 kg and 7 kg (11 lbs and 15 lbs).
